In the age of digitisation, in which we’re present on different social networks, our lives are more connected than ever before. We share special moments such as summer snapshots, we interact with our families and friends, we check the latest sports, economic and political news and we manage our professional presence on platforms such as Instagram, X, Facebook and LinkedIn. Facebook currently boasts the most monthly accesses, with almost three billion, while the others have large numbers of users connecting with their environment via these channels.
With this constant opening and closing of applications and exposure on different networks, the risks have increased with respect to a few years ago. Cybercriminals regard social media as a goldmine for stealing information, impersonating identities and running increasingly sophisticated scams. As a result of the above, protecting our digital identities on the different social media channels has become a necessity, not only to protect our privacy, but also to prevent consequences in our personal and professional lives.

In this post we explain the importance of protecting your social media profiles and how tools such as TU Latch can add an extra layer of security by means of two-factor authentication (2FA) to safeguard your accounts.

How to protect your social network accounts with the second authentication factor?

Social media are excellent tools for connecting with other people, being entertained and keeping up with the latest trends, but using them without the necessary security can end up in disaster. Phishing, theft of personal information and malware distribution are just some of the risks.
Major channels such as Instagram, X and Facebook have implemented security measures, but sometimes they prove insufficient. You can set up an initial barrier to prevent danger by providing your profiles with passwords that are stronger than numerical sequences or your date of birth. But sometimes even the above isn’t enough to prevent cybercriminals from attacking.
It’s therefore advisable to use additional solutions that provide an extra layer of security, such as Latch, a user authentication application. This tool acts as a second authentication factor, providing an additional layer of protection for your accounts. It does this by means of TOTP (Time-Based One-Time Password) authentication, which provides temporary access codes that do away with static passwords and offer greater security.

How to improve your security on Instagram with TU Latch?

The Latch app acts as a second authentication factor, providing greater control over access to your account. By using Latch for your social media accounts such as Instagram you can block or unblock access to your profile in real time via the app. This means that, even if someone obtains your password, they won’t be able to log into your account without your permission. In addition, if someone you haven’t given access to your profile to attempts to log in, you’ll receive an immediate notification.
You can thus keep your Instagram account protected against potential attacks and breaches and improve your online security.
For example, using Latch as a second authentication factor on Instagram is really simple. Just follow these steps:
  1. Download the Latch app, available in Google Play and on the App Store.
2. Register with the email address of your choice or, if you’re already a user, log into the app with your credentials.

8. Open the Latch app, go to the “Login” section and click on “Add Account”. Here you can scan the QR code or enter the code of letters and numbers displayed by the web service.
9. Once you’ve done that, the Instagram profile is automatically integrated into the other protected accounts.
Protecting your profiles on social media is essential if you want to avoid surprises and browse securely. Latch is an effective tool that’s easy to integrate into your account, giving you full control over who logs into it and when.
